I’m sure you have seen the pictures and videos of cycling races, either in the Olympics or the Tour de France. Packs of riders all clumped together, appearing to pedal almost in unison, winding their way around curves or rushing down straight-aways. I could never quite understand why, if the goal is to be first to cross the finish line, a rider would stay with the pack.

One of the reasons I decided to become a reporter was because I liked to ask questions. Not the confrontational, prosecutor style, “Are you guilty of…?” type of questions. Believe me, I’ve asked those types of questions when needed. But I prefer the, “So how does this work?” or “What does this do?” type of question. I’ve always been a curious person.

What's My Story: Marine Ecologist
James Morris is a marine ecologist for NOAA focused on protecting the ocean's fisheries from invasive species. He grew up around the docks of a small fishing village as a 6th generation fisherman. He loves fishing and wants to be sure there is a flourishing fishery for more generations of small communities along the coast.
