Raleigh's new cathedral gives old stained glass new life

Raleigh’s new Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral will not only feature a sound system designed for the best quality, it will also feature amazing stained glass windows.

Fifty of those windows are newly created for the church. But 42 of the stained glass windows are finding a new life in the Diocese of Raleigh’s new cathedral.

In December 2012, the Diocese of Raleigh acquired stained glass windows from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The windows are being removed from Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in the Archdiocese that was closed several years ago.

Sustainable Estate

In the late 19th century when he built his grand estate, George Vanderbilt’s goal wasn’t just to have a place to relax and entertain family, friends, and business associates. He also wanted a place that would preserve the environment in and around Asheville that he had grown to love.

It’s not surprising then that the nation’s first planned and sustainable forestry program was started at Biltmore, where Vanderbilt’s vision for a sustainable estate began and continues today.

College life is getting greener at North Carolina State University.

For the past year, the school’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Office has been focusing on an environmentally friendly way to dispose of an extremely common item — the pizza box.

Pizza boxes are not recyclable because of the grease and cheese that soaks into the cardboard, so they had the idea to compost the boxes.
